Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said, &ldquo;Everybody can be great ... because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." A message that resonates with all of us&mdash;young and old.
 
 
Dr. King spent his life serving, advocating for freedom and equal rights for all people&mdash;without discrimination. He was a Civil Rights leader and was largely responsible for helping to pass the Civil Rights Act in 1964 and Voting Rights Act in 1965.
 
 
Monday, January 18 was Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a state holiday honoring Dr. King's legacy and his life's work.
 
 
It's 2021&mdash;and while we&rsquo;ve come a long way as a state and a nation, there's more we can do to help serve our community and preserve his legacy.
