Nov. 22, 2019&mdash;Heading to a trampoline park for a party&mdash;or just a fun family outing&mdash;may sound like a good time. But one bad bounce could lead to serious injuries for kids. 
In fact, the growing popularity of these parks may be fueling a rise in trampoline-related injuries, a new study suggests. 
A worrisome trend
The study was presented at the 2019 National Conference and Exhibition of the <a target="_blank" href="http://www.netreturns.biz/healthinfo/bouncelink.aspx?shortcut=aap">American Academy of Pediatrics</a> (AAP). Researchers looked at medical records of children under 18 who'd had a broken bone between 2008 and 2017. 
In 2008, trampolines were the cause of more than 3.5% of fractures in kids. But that number has risen steadily since. By 2017, it was more than 6%. 
Even more concerning: For every year of the study, it was 32% more likely that those fractures occurred in a trampoline park or gym&mdash;not on a backyard trampoline.
Best bet: Don't bounce
Trampolines are a significant cause of broken bones in children and teens. But the AAP warns they can cause other serious injuries too, such as:

 <li>Strains and sprains.</li>
 <li>Concussions. </li>
 <li>Head and neck injuries that can lead to paralysis or death. </li>
</ul>
In fact, the risks of landing wrong are so serious that the AAP says most kids shouldn't use trampolines at all. The only exception is a supervised training program for gymnastics, diving or other competitive sports.
