Your primary care provider (PCP) can give you expert help for finding the right care for your needs&mdash;including care from a specialist. 
 
It&rsquo;s important to know that you need a referral from your designated PCP for most specialist visits for them to be covered by your health plan. And usually, the specialist needs to be in your health plan&rsquo;s network.

3 things to do to make sure your specialist visit is covered by your health plan 

1. Ask your doctor to find a specialist in your health plan&rsquo;s network. (Or check that your current specialist is in your network. See below.) 
2. Have your PCP send a referral to the specialist before scheduling your appointment. 
3. Make sure the specialist has received your referral before your appointment.
Skipping these steps could mean paying full price for a specialist. And that can get expensive quickly.

Already have a specialist? Make sure they&rsquo;re in your network. 

If you have or know of a specialist you&rsquo;d like to work with, ask them if they&rsquo;re in your plan&rsquo;s network. Or you can check on our Find A Doctor tool. Here&rsquo;s how:
1. Log in to your MyBlue account at <a href="https://www.azblue.com/account-management/bluenet-online" target="_blank">azblue.com/MyBlue</a> 
2. Click on the search link under &ldquo;Find Doctors, Hospitals, and Facilities&rdquo; 
3. You can search for a provider in your plan&rsquo;s network by name, type (area of specialization), or location.

 
Important information to remember
<ul style="list-style-type: disc;">
 <li>No referrals are needed for visits to chiropractors, OB/GYNs, and certain other specialists. </li>
 <li>If a referral is required and you do not get one, your health plan will not cover the specialist visit. </li>
 <li>You can see if your referral request was approved your <a href="https://www.azblue.com/account-management/bluenet-online" target="_blank">MyBlue account</a>. Once you confirm approval of your referral, you can schedule an appointment with the specialist.</li>

How to view referrals in your MyBlue account

 <li>Login to your <a href="https://www.azblue.com/account-management/bluenet-online" target="_blank">MyBlue account</a>, select Manage My Primary Care Provider (PCP)</li>
 <li>Click &lsquo;View Referrals/Precertifications&rsquo; on the far-right tab </li>
 <li>&lsquo;View Referrals/Precertifications&rsquo; page shows the status of all pre-approvals, including the status as either Completed (approved), Pend (Pending for medical review), or Disallowed (Denied)</li>
