Affordable Care Act: Individual & Family Plans
We offer Individual and Family health plans under the Affordable Care Act with a choice of premiums and coverage options. And because you lost your health insurance due to a job loss, you may qualify for special enrollment. That means you do not have to wait for the next Open Enrollment period to get a new health plan if you enroll within 60 days of losing your employer coverage.
If cost is an issue, you may also be eligible for financial help from the government to pay for all or part of your premium, as well as certain healthcare costs.
If you’re turning 65 or meet one of the other qualifications for Medicare, we offer a variety of plan options, including Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement (Medigap), and Medicare Part D Prescription Drug plans.
Are you eligible for Medicaid? You and/or a family member may be and we can still help. For assistance in confirming your benefits, eligibility, and enrollment options:
Short-Term Medical Insurance*
If you’re just looking for temporary health coverage, check out Interim coverage from Independence American Insurance Company, a member of The IHC Group**. Interim means temporary, so it’s sometimes called short-term coverage or short-term medical. Plans are available for as little as 30 days, or up to 364 days. Your coverage can begin as quickly as the next day.
With short term health insurance you are not buying an ACA health plan. That means you need to keep a few things in mind
as you plan your coverage needs:
- Plans are not guaranteed issue, do not cover preexisting conditions, and you must answer a series of medical
questions to apply for coverage
- There are several exclusions or limitations regarding coverage of pre-existing conditions and health benefits such as:
- preventive care
- emergency services
- prescription drugs
- maternity care
- mental health and substance use disorder services
- Plans may have lifetime and/or annual dollar limits on health benefits
*Short Term Medical (STM) plans are offered by The IHC Group and underwritten by Independence American Insurance Company (IAIC), a member of The IHC Group. STM insurance is temporary coverage with limited benefits. STM plans are not considered individual market coverage under federal rules, so they are not
subject to the ACA's regulations, may not cover pre-existing conditions, and are not guaranteed-issue. Applicants must answer a series of medical questions. Check plan details
carefully for limitations.
**The IHC Group and IAIC are independent companies that do not provide, offer or sell BCBSAZ products or services and are solely responsible for the products and services
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona is contracted with Medicare to offer HMO and PPO Medicare Advantage plans and PDP plans. Enrollment in Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona plans depends on contract renewal.
