FREE Diabetes program

If you’re living with, at risk for, or want to reduce your child’s risk for type 2 diabetes, there are free programs you should check out to help empower, motivate, and inform you.

In partnership with the American Diabetes Association (ADA), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona has brought no-cost/free diabetes prevention and self-management programs to Arizona called Project Power. ADA’s Project Power initiative is for both kids and adults. The curriculum is a little different based on age, but the objective is the same: prevent or manage diabetes, and the complications that can come with it.

Project Power for Adults

This lifestyle change program is for adults 18+ diagnosed with prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, or who are at high risk for diabetes and provides:

  • Weekly lessons and discussions offered virtually and in person for 12 months
  • 1:1 coaching in the first three months
  • Small support groups
  • Resources and tools like scales, activity trackers, and a program booklet full of information

Weekly discussions will cover a lot of bases, including meal planning, physical activity, glucose monitoring and medication, eye health, and so much more.

Sign up for Project Power for Adults here: Project Power (diabetes.org).

First, you need to take the type 2 diabetes risk test to participate. After filling out the quick questionnaire, you’ll receive an email from Project Power informing you that you’ll be matched with a Project Power Coach and team. Keep an eye out for a follow-up email with your class start date.

Project Power For Youth

This healthy lifestyle program for kids ages 5-12 is aimed at slowing the trajectory of childhood obesity by providing:

  • 3-week interactive sessions offered virtually and in person
  • Health promotion and nutrition education
  • An activity kit filled with instructive activities and supplies, a water bottle, MyPlate placemat, digital activity journal, and more!

Summer sessions start July 11. Register here: Sign-in | American Diabetes Association (campbrainregistration.com).

And did we mention both the youth and adult programs come at no cost to you? Sign up, learn, set attainable goals, and have some fun while you’re at it!
