A recent report shows that Arizona is the EIGHTH most stressed-out state in the nation. That’s not a top-ten list we’re excited to be on!

In today’s fast-paced world, stress seems to be an inevitable part of daily life. But it’s not something you should ignore and allow to build, as it has been linked to health issues like high blood pressure. Managing stress is crucial for maintaining both physical and mental well-being.

Here are four strategies to help reduce and manage your stress levels and pave the way to a healthier, happier you.

  1. Mindfulness and meditation: Try taking a few deep breaths when you’re stuck in line, caught in traffic, or in other situations that usually cause you stress. Challenge yourself to spend five minutes daily in total silence. Consider disconnecting from your phone, TV, and computer screens for a while. Mindfulness and meditation can take on many forms – figure out what works for you!
  2. Regular exercise: Engaging in regular physical activity is one of the most effective ways to combat stress. Exercise not only helps release endorphins, but it also provides an outlet for pent-up tension and frustration. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says adults should get at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week, like brisk walking.
  3. Healthy lifestyle habits: Maintaining a balanced lifestyle can play a significant role in stress management. Eat a nutritious diet, get plenty of sleep (7-9 hours), and give yourself a break if you feel stressed out. Take care of yourself!
  4. Seeking support and connection: Don’t hesitate to reach out to friends, family, or a medical professional like a therapist for support when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Talking about your feelings with someone you can trust can help you feel less isolated in your struggles. Also, fostering strong social connections and engaging in activities you enjoy can boost mood and resilience, making it easier to cope with stressors when they arise.

Work, school, finances, relationships – different stress contributors can impact your health. By incorporating these stress management strategies into your daily life, you can take control of your well-being and build resiliency!
