Big News for GLP-1 Access!

A new CMS program opens the door to weight loss coverage

On July 1, 2026, the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program went live, giving eligible Medicare Part D members access to certain GLP-1 medications used for weight loss.

This short-term program by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) runs through December 31, 2027, and offers qualifying members access to these medications. Members who receive a GLP-1 medication under the Bridge program will pay a $50 copay for a 30-day supply. The copay does not count toward the Part D deductible or True Out-of-Pocket (TrOOP) costs and there is no low-income subsidy (LIS) provided for LIS beneficiaries.

The program operates outside of the standard Part D benefit, with CMS managing everything through a single central processor—including prior authorization, claims, and payments to pharmacies.

For members with non-weight loss conditions, these medications will continue to be covered under their Part D benefit. Members who already have coverage through Part D will not be transitioned to the GLP-1 Bridge program.
