BCBSAZ Coverage Updates

Our members need us more than ever. Our commitment to supporting their health in the time of COVID-19 is at the heart of several critical coverage updates that help ensure easier and more affordable access to care.

These updates have been implemented for all fully insured members. Self-funded customers have the option of making these updates available to their employees, so the updates below may not apply.

Telemedicine

BCBSAZ is making it easy for members to connect with a doctor from home and reduce exposure to COVID-19.

Most of our in-network providers are now offering telemedicine visits. When we say “telemedicine,” we are talking about telemedicine, telehealth, and tele-dentistry.

To help our members “stay home, stay healthy, and stay connected,” we’re waiving the cost share for telemedicine visits with an in-network provider. For the duration of the public health emergency, members pay $0 out of pocket for in-network telemedicine when services are covered by their plan, medically necessary, and reasonable to be provided virtually.

  • Visits with a BCBSAZ in-network provider

We are encouraging our members to first check with their PCP or other in-network BCBSAZ provider about scheduling a telemedicine visit. Many doctors who didn’t offer this option before are doing so now.

Telemedicine visits between a member and their regular doctor reinforce the established relationship and supports enhanced care coordination. That’s why the best first step for members is to try a telemedicine visit with their regular in-network provider.
