Interim Maternity Care Billing Guidance Effective Immediately

Review the guidance below for prenatal and maternity billing prior to and after January 1, 2027.

What providers need to know
The American Medical Association (AMA) and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) have announced significant maternity care billing and coding changes effective January 1, 2027. Current global maternity care codes will be replaced by new and revised codes that separately identify antepartum care, labor management, delivery, and postpartum care.

To support the transition, here is our recommendation on interim billing guidance for prenatal care services furnished during calendar year 2026 for pregnancies with expected delivery dates on or after January 1, 2027.
