Playground Renovation

A playground is a place where children can come together, interact, and grow through the gift of play. But for the special needs students at Carver Elementary School in Yuma, the limited playground accessibility has confined them to watching from the edge.

Together with the Rotary Club of Fort Yuma, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ) has donated funds to revitalize the playground at Carver Elementary to offer the same play opportunities for all children. The BCBSAZ and other supporting donations will enable the purchase of a wheelchair ramp, shade structure, jungle gym, swings with specialized attachments, and even a map of the USA painted in the courtyard, to assist the students with their physical therapy and overall well-being.

Members of the Fort Yuma Rotary Club pride themselves on raising funds that go directly back into the community. The Carver Elementary playground renovation is their selected service project, with club volunteers providing hands on work to complete the upgrade.

“This project is ambitious, but with the help from BCBSAZ it will come to fruition,” said David Carvell, president of The Rotary Club of Fort Yuma. “The Fort Yuma Club shares the Rotary’s International motto, ‘Service Above Self.’ We’re proud that this project will benefit several generations of students at Carver Elementary.”
